Can I defer my study? What should I do?

Can I defer my study? What should I do?

Students may apply for deferment of study if they have a genuine need to do so, such as prolonged illness or being posted to work outside Hong Kong.  Applications from students who have not yet completed the first year of a full-time programme will be considered only under exceptional circumstances.

Taught programme students who wish to defer their study are required to submit the Form AR7 via eStudent with supporting documents (if applicable) to the programme offering department after programme registration.  If an application for deferment is submitted after the start of a semester, it will be processed only after the student settles all the outstanding tuition fees and/or other fees.  The deferment period will not be counted towards the total period of registration (or maximum period of registration for students admitted in or before 2019/20).  For more details, please refer to the section of "Deferment of Study" in the Student Handbook for Taught Programmes.

Research Postgraduate students (RPg) who wish to defer their study are advised to refer to the Research Postgraduate Student Handbook for information.
